Greetings, CAU Nation!

As we bring this 2018-2019 fiscal year to a close, I would like to thank each of you for your support for Clark Atlanta University as we navigated challenges this year. Together we have stood strong and prevailed. May’s activities served as a testament of how teamwork makes a difference. From the Hooding Ceremonies to Baccalaureate Service and Commencement Convocation, I am pleased to say that we had a great, well-received 2019 May Weekend experience.

The accolades continue from all constituent sources and by all accounts, we have received rave reviews for each program as they started and ended on time. This is a testament to the good planning, great teamwork and efficient execution which is necessary to deliver a quality product while Enhancing the Student Experience.

Our commencement speaker, the Honorable Dr. Andrew Gillum, received the Doctor of Laws Honoris Causa and exhorted the class of 2019 to set the best example for the communities watching them lead. Our second Honorary Degree recipient, the legendary jazz vocalist Lionel "Freddy" Cole, was beaming with pride as the Doctor of Humane Letters Honoris Causa was bestowed upon him.

Highlights of Commencement included the awarding of 781 degrees to deserving graduates; a posthumous degree presented to the Danjoint family for our fallen Panther, Ashley Danjoint; and the powerful performance by the Philharmonic Choir under the direction of Dr. Curtis Powell. The Philharmonic Choir’s rendition of “God Is” during the Doctoral Hooding was a powerful moment in the program that moved the entire audience.

We also honored the Golden Sons and Daughters and Legacy Alumni of Atlanta University and Clark College, celebrating their 70th, 65th, and 60th anniversaries: classes of 1949, 1954, 1959 and 1964. Additional kudos to Chief Debra Williams and the AUC’s finest public safety for a job well done in making certain everyone felt safe from start to finish.

We ended the year with a fantastic Closing Workshop, where we celebrated our achievements and learned more about the recent board-approved Strategic Plan for 2018-2023. The plan is a reminder for us to continue to embrace our mission, guiding principles, goals and core values, ultimately recognizing that when the team works at CAU, the dream works at CAU.

I wish the entire faculty, staff and CAU family a productive yet relaxing summer as we look forward to new possibilities in the coming fiscal year. We shall continue to move Clark Atlanta University to its next level of greatness! We are and continue to be "One Exceptional University”!!

Until the next time...
