Greetings, CAU Nation!

March marks such a beautiful time as leaves begin to bud on trees and the entire campus begins to bloom and blossom, providing us with a constant reminder of how CAU continues to be progressive, collaborative, and innovative in building relationships throughout the Atlanta community and throughout the world.

We celebrate Women’s History Month, recognizing the great contributions women have made and continue to make to our society across all walks of life and disciplines of study. Just recently, I had the opportunity to serve as the only university president on the Herschend Enterprises Women’s Forum, a leadership development panel for women leaders who work for the Atlanta-based Herschend Entertainment.  My participation, as well as that of our CAU Marching Band, initiated the beginnings of a collaborative relationship between CAU and Herschend Entertainment.

A beautiful sea of red, black and gray represented the CAU Nation during “CAU Day at the Capitol” in mid-February.  CAU students, faculty, staff, and alumni were well represented as we received resolutions from both the Georgia State Senate and the Georgia House of Representatives.  Our meetings with Governor Brian Kemp and Georgia state legislators continued to build awareness of CAU’s achievements, and created and enhanced new relationships with our state government.

Two weeks ago, the CAU Board of Trustees held its quarterly meeting.  I am pleased to announce that the Board approved the four priorities of my vision for CAU. They are:

  • The CAU Student Experience
  • B.S. degree program in Cyber Security
  • The Center for Cancer and Therapeutic Research Development (focus on Prostate Cancer)
  • The 5-Year Strategic Plan

During the month of March we will also commemorate Founders’ Week, full of events and activities to celebrate our achievements and look back over the history of our unique institution. This year’s special occasion also marks 30 years since the consolidation of our parent institutions, Atlanta University (1865) and Clark College (1869). Here are a few highlights of the upcoming celebrations:

Founders’ Day Convocation -- On Thursday, March 21, Clark Atlanta University will celebrate its Founders’ Day Convocation, themed “Strengthening Connections for Student Success.”  The Convocation is open to all students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of CAU and will feature notable alumni to discuss their accomplishments.

Alumni Townhall -- I cordially invite you to join me and the Clark Atlanta University Alumni Association (CAUAA) to learn more about upcoming developments and initiatives on Thursday March 21, 6 pm, at the Juanita P. Baranco Multipurpose Room, in the Bishop C.L. Henderson Student Center.
You may register here.

Spirit of Greatness Gala -- On Saturday, March 23 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta Hotel, CAU and CAUAA will host its 11th annual Spirit of Greatness Gala, recognizing alumni and pioneers who are making a positive impact in the nation. Proceeds from the gala enables us to provide scholarships to our students. You can purchase tickets for the gala here

All the best,

Lucille H. Maugé
